'Verb + Gerund' or 'Verb + Infinitive' selection are the problem
I think they are the etarnal problem for ESL, then I try to clarify and to get clear by Visualization.
Below are the 4 types of them.
[1] 'Verb + Gerund' or 'Verb + Infinitive' both OK but different meaning
[2] 'Verb + Gerund' or 'Verb + Infinitive' both OK and Mostly the same meaning
[3] 'Verb + Gerund' only
[4] 'Verb + Infinitive' only
Some chapters are still under construction.

As far as I know there are 6 verbs, so I'll show you them by Visuzalization.
(1) forget + doing or to do
(2) stop + doing or to do
(3) try + doing or to do
(4) quit + doing or to do
(5) regret + doing or to do
(6) remember + doing or to do
The most important thing is that the differences are whether you are Facing the Future or Facing the Past.
Note : Only ’try + Gerund’ is an exception in above.
